BREATHE…BREATHE…

it wasn’t that long ago that i actually gave birth.  although everyday, since silly monkey was born, i feel ridiculously older, it wasn’t even 15 months ago.

i talk about silly monkey A LOT.  why?  b/c i LOVE him.  and b/c with so many of my friends getting ready to welcome (or recently welcoming) their bundle of joy (and cries and tantrums), i LOVE giving “danyelle advice” (why do i all of a sudden feel so jealous!?).  but, like i said, it wasn’t that long ago that i became a mother, so some of it you should completely ignore and just try on your own.

in honor of sharon (and a few others that have actually asked for my thoughts), i have complied a few lists…

THINGS TO BRING WITH YOU TO THE HOSPITAL

**these are in addition to the obvious, like your insurance card, etc**

* pillows.  some for you.  some for your hubby.  and use dark or colored pillow cases, so the hospital staff doesn’t steal them.

* blankets.  one for you.  one for your hubby.

* some magazines.  though, in my case, i didn’t make it through a single one b/c i was in too much pain to focus.

* socks.  hospital floors are cold and those weird blue things they give you feel gross.

* one change of clothes, for your trip home.  maternity wear is best.  i spent the bulk of my stay in a gown.  no biggie.  it was less hassle.  oh & a pair of flip flops b/c your feet will be fat & it will be almost impossible to fit them in regular shoes.

* toiletries – soap, shampoo, conditioner, loofah, face wash, toothpaste, toothbrush.  they’ll give you some of these, but you won’t want to use them.

* snacks for dad (and you, for after the birth).  hospital food sucks.  in fact, i made matt run out to get me food everyday.

* nursing bra & pads

* hair ties or a headband

* one outfit to bring home baby

* carseat (and please install the base before you even go to the hospital)

* a muzzle.  for the hubby.  in case he says something mean.  and we all know he will.

THINGS YOU DO NOT NEED TO BRING

* diapers.  they WILL give you these.

* bottles and formula.  this is supplied as well.

* baby blankets.  they give you a few of these and actually encourage you to take one with you.

* a bunch of baby outfits.  silly monkey stayed in the little t-shirt things they supplied for us.  made things MUCH easier than wiggling him into cute outfits everyday.

THINGS YOU SHOULD BUY B/C THEY’LL MAKE YOUR LIFE SO MUCH EASIER

* bouncy seat

* HALO Swaddle Sleep Sack – this one works better than any other one i have found or used.  the kiddopotomus swaddleme is OK, but this one rocks.  i got mine at land’s end, but they may have them at jc penney and meijer.

* the kidco configure gate, especially if you have weird stairways

* “healthy sleep habits, happy baby” – the best book EVER.  i still use it.

i suppose that’s it.  these are just some things that have made having silly monkey a little easier.  not easy.  easier.
