THE FOOD CONNOISSEUR…

silly monkey isn’t like other kids his age.  he couldn’t care less about pizza.  isn’t a huge fan of hot dogs.  and will eat an occasional chicken nugget, if accompanied by french fries, but only if he has to (and if we buy them to accompany his french fries, he always has to… always.)

i guess it started when he was a baby.  i nursed for as long as i possibly could, which amounted to about 5 months.  when it all dried up due to a ridiculous amount of stress, i was lucky enough to have a frozen supply to last about 2 more months.  but that was it.  since he was supplementing with formula anyway, i didn’t have to make a drastic change in feeding.  not to mention that at about that time, he was being introduced to table foods…

table foods were easy.  and silly monkey was a hungry piggy.  he ate everything in sight.  everything.  but his favorites mystified just about everyone:  meatless meatballs (soy), black olives, blueberry preserves on pancakes and garbanzo beans.

when he hit about age two, food became his sudden enemy.  he didn’t want anything.  he still ate just about any fruit and/or veggie & a significant amount of beans (any bean would do).  but, to get enough protein from beans and beans alone, he would have had to eat a few cups per day (and as an adult, i can safely testify that a few cups of beans is a lot of friggin’ beans).

his appetite hasn’t gotten much better over the past year or so, but he will eat parmesan cheese by the spoonful, bits of flank steak and eggs (he can’t get enough eggs – scrambled or hard boiled).  oh & honey roasted almonds – he LOVES honey roasted almonds.  still, these really aren’t things most kids would even considering putting in their mouths.

but now, at more than three years of age, he’s still the kid that couldn’t care less about pizza.  the kids that isn’t a huge fan of hot dogs.  and the kids that will eat an occasional chicken nugget, if accompanied by french fries, but only if he has to (and if we buy them to accompany his french fries, he always has to… always.)
