GET NOT YOUR FRIENDS BY BARE COMPLIMENTS, BUT BY GIVING THEM SENSIBLE TOKENS OF YOUR LOVE…

i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again – i am not good with compliments.  mostly b/c i just don’t know how to respond beyond the initial “thank you”.  so i usually just say “thank you”, blush and stop any & all eye contact…

is that normal?

while playing catch up…

[side note:  i have awesome neighbors.  we all pretty much know each other, with the exception of the guy on the end who is almost never home (though when he is, he gives all the gals creepy hellos).  i feel like my neighborhood is a circle of lovely people who truly look out for one another.  we’re all polite.  check on each other when things are extra noisy, though out of the ordinary.   watch intently when weird people show up on each other’s doorsteps.  sign for packages.  play with each other’s animals.  and in general, just enjoy the lovely company of a handful of very lovely people.]

one of neighbors paid me two compliments:

“your hair is great.  i really like it… a lot.”

and

“you are such a good mommy.  i tell everyone who stops over here that you are a terrific mom – you interact with him so well, have appropriate responses and you always seem to enjoy your time together so much.  he is so happy with you.”

the first compliment hit my ego.  i said “thank you”, smiled & blushed, then looked away.

but the second…

that one hit my heart.
